Client Visit: Bicester Village
20th July 2018
Bicester Village received a staggering 6.6m visitors last year, a similar figure to the British Museum. Just one hour from London, the premium outlet village stretches the same length as the Champs Elysee and is home to more than 160 clapboard boutiques, each offering savings of up to 60% on the recommended retail price.
But it's not just the discounted brands that make the rural village almost as popular among Chinese tourists as Buckingham Palace. Bicester Village is as luxurious as Bond St, and as pretty as a New England town. You'll find everything from chic restaurants to creative pop-ups and art exhibitions – plus a range of VIP services for an effortless shopping experience.
Proportion's Sallyann Brown and Bethany Warsop visited the world-famous village to admire the display techniques we've supplied to stores such as Bamford, Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood and All Saints, and to witness the beautiful botanical displays landscaped by cult florist, Nikki Tibbles.
"Trips to Bicester village are always insightful and inspiring," said Sallyanne. "There were lots of new shops and restaurants to explore and it was interesting to note the addition of new pop-up stores, as they now play an integral role in retail". The British brand, Monica Vinader, have introduced a pop up to the village and sell unique, contemporary jewellery.
Bicester Village has also and taken cues from the hospitality industry with the opening of premier craft distillery, TOAD. The Artisan bar is located in the Secret Garden. Bethany said: "Customers walk through a picket fence into a world of feasting, fun and a little fantasy. It's gorgeous."
The prestigious Cafe Wolsely, located on London's Piccadilly, has expanded in Bicester's designer shopping village. As well as providing a swanky new eating spot, the brand presents its first complete range of homeware such as candles, crystal glassware and antique silver, and there's a dedicated space for their growing retail collection.
“For many years, we have wanted to extend the reach of the Wolseley, but it’s only now that we have found an opportunity to achieve that, as Value Retail continues to build its vision for Bicester Village,” said Jeremy King, Chief Executive Officer of Corbyn & King, the restaurant group that owns the Wolseley.
Proportion is excited to go back later this year to discover Gucci's new flagship" and new pop-ups such as Penelope Chilvers boasting on-trend styles using traditional methods with a contemporary twist.
